when President Lyndon B. Johnson ordered the Joint Chiefs of Staff under Gen. Earle Wheeler to do a study in June 1967 on what was needed by Israel to survive as a nation, without American needing to come to her rescue, the following was what the report recommended:

That Israel needed its furthest borders at key positions to be able to withstand the frequent assaults by the Arab nations. This study was to be a top secret document because not only did it advise Israel how to survive but, it was also self-serving for the U.S. who did not want to be called in to fight the Arab armies in order to save the Jewish State. This highly secret study was researched by each of America's Armed Forces including Air Force, Army, Navy and several of its key Intelligence Agencies.

Israel was advised not to abandon her furthest borders and whatever high ground she held. This secret June 29, 1967 report was released by the WALL ST. JOURNAL March 9, 1983. We happen to have an original copy and a re-done line drawing of the secret map available on request by FAX.

According to the report that accompanied the map, the Joint Chiefs said: "Returning Israel to pre-1967 boundaries would drastically increase its vulnerability. Israel would be threatened by West Bank artillery and tactical SAMs - a sword constantly over its head and the need to maintain readiness with prohibitive mobilization costs. For stable future Arab-Israeli agreements, Israel must feel it can wait out a crisis rather than strike pre-emptively. Israel should retain....the Gaza Strip, mountains and plateaus of the West Bank, the tip of the Sinai, Sharm el Sheikh, the Golan Heights east of Quneitra and ALL of Jerusalem."

What has led to a volte face of this policy. Have the Arabs suddenly turned benevolent? Or is there more than meets the eye?

Attack on Iran and Israeli-Palestinian peace. Is there an eerie connection between War and Peace

We see only one glimmer of hope in the US supported Gaza Pullout. Before the USA invaded Afghanistan, they brokered a peace between India and Pakistan, so that tension between the two south-Asian nuclear powers did not break into open war and complicate the strike on Afghanistan in October 2001. Remember Tony Blair's many visits to Islamabad and New Delhi, followed by those of Richard Armitage?

The before the Iraq attack was launched, there was a peace contrived between Israel and Palestinians, when Abbas and Sharon were forced to shake hands for the first time. This ensured that a flare up in Israel did not complicate the attack on Iraq.

Now the US is forcing a second peace between Israel and the Palestinians. Can this be a precursor to an attack on Iran?

Let's wait and watch. Maybe the implication of our retreat from Gaza will be seen in the advance against Iran.

Washington and others have long suspected Iran's nuclear program is intended to develop weapons, and European governments grew concerned after it was revealed the Iranians had kept parts of its atomic operations hidden from U.N. inspectors.

Iran denies it is working on nuclear arms, saying the program's sole purpose is to generate electricity. Why it requires nuclear energy when it has a surplus of oil is anybody's guess.

On Friday, Bush said on Israeli television that efforts to shut down Iran's atomic program should rely on diplomacy, but he also had a veiled warning for the Tehran regime.

If diplomacy fails "all options are on the table," he said. "The use of force is the last option for any president. You know, we've used force in the recent past to secure our country."

Asefi characterized the comment as part of Washington's psychological war against Iran and said Iran had its own warning about any U.S. attack.

"I think Bush should know that our options are more numerous than the U.S. options," Asefi said. "If the United States makes such a big mistake, then Iran will definitely have more choices to defend itself."

After the International Atomic Energy Agency's board issued its appeal, diplomats familiar with the proceedings said Iran was being given until Sept. 3 to halt uranium conversion or risk being referred to the U.N. Security Council for consideration of sanctions.

And once Iran has several nuclear weapons, all the sanctions in the world won't matter.

This is an onminous situation.
